Introduction

Taxonomic and ecological information, together with photographic images, of 296 species of ground beetle inhabiting “Satoyama” woodlands (traditional managed woodlands around farming villages in Japan) are made public in this data base.

The information of distribution and subspecies referred to Ishikawa (1985), Ueno (1985), Morita (1985), Tanaka (1985), Kasahara (1985), Okura (1985), Yahiro (2005), "Iconographia Insectorum Japonicorum Colore Naturali Edita Vol. II" (Morimoto supervised 2007), and reference list. Basically the classification system referred to "Iconographia Insectorum Japonicorum Colore Naturali Edita Vol. II" (Morimoto supervised 2007), scientific name referred to "Catalogue of Palaerctic Coleoptera Volume 1" (Löbl & Smetana, 2003), Japanese name referred to Ishikawa (1985), Ueno (1985), Morita (1985), Tanaka (1985), Kasahara (1985), and Okura (1985).
